Job Description

The Palliative Medicine & Comprehensive Care program at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus consists of an interdisciplinary team of 5 physicians, 2 advance practice providers, 2 social workers, a palliative RN, a hospice coordinator, and a chaplain. Our comprehensive, expert team, provides specialty consultation throughout the 923- bed hospital campus, with a strong focus on both advanced symptom management and serious illness communication.

This position will provide clinical expertise and mentor-ship within our team, grow collaborative relationships with hospital departments to enhance and inform primary palliative care delivery. We are looking for a leader who desires to foster growth and meet the unique professional development needs of each team member. This leader will join the palliative medical directors of the Inova Eastern and Western region hospitals to work with the system chief on continuous quality improvement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participation in daily IDT to optimize clinical integration, efficiency, and effectiveness of service delivery,
  • Inpatient consultation and rotating weekend call schedule (day coverage)
  • Assistance with educational oversight of rotating learners
  • Collaboration in system wide quality initiatives
  • Collaboration with Hospice partners to insure appropriate transitions
  • Development and maintenance of partnerships in strategic arenas throughout the campus.

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • At least 3 years' experience in the practice of hospice and palliative medicine OR at least 5 years' experience in the practice of another primary specialty
  • At least 2 years' experience in leadership role
  • High level of interpersonal skills that allows effective communications with a wide variety of clinicians, physicians, patients, affiliated institutions and the general public.
