Thoracic Surgeon
Job Description
The thoracic surgery program of the INOVA hospital system is seeking a BC/BE thoracic surgeon to join our team. Candidates with all levels of experience including new fellowship graduates will be considered. Experience in thoracic robotic surgery and both malignant and benign esophageal surgery is preferred. The thoracic surgery program at INOVA currently consists of three highly experienced thoracic surgeons, Three extremely proficient interventional pulmonologists, 6 advanced practice providers and a dedicated team of general surgery residents. The scope of practice in our program spans all aspects of general thoracic surgery excluding lung transplant. The new candidate will have excellent and experienced mentorship as well as an environment that is supportive of both clinical and academic work.
The goals of our program over the next five years are lofty: to make INOVA a destination center for complex thoracic surgical problems and to establish the program as a leader of innovation in the field of thoracic surgery. There are several unique attributes to our program that will allow us to accomplish this.

-A thoracic surgery program that encompasses both surgery and interventional pulmonary
components. This seamless partnership which utilizes all robotic platforms is the perfect
environment to incubate technological advances within our field.
-An ability to partner with our industry colleagues in an ethical, efficient, and productive way so
as to advance the field of thoracic interventions.
-The INOVA Schar cancer center, a robustly endowed all-inclusive cancer center that provides
an environment for state- of- the-art multidisciplinary care. The space is modern and has
significant room to expand, a unique feature in populous metropolitan areas.
-Clinical research infrastructure allows for development of innovative local institutional
protocols as well as analysis of nationally supported databases.
We currently practice thoracic surgery at two of the 5 INOVA hospitals with a goal of introducing our program at an additional INOVA site. The scope of practice of our new partner will include performing procedures at both our main campus as well as an additional satellite site of practice. All sites of practice will afford access to the most up to date minimally invasive and robotic platforms.
The northern Virginia and Washington DC metro area is a dynamic and diverse community that will cater to a wide variety of interests. Additional Requirements
• An MD or DO degree with board certification in Thoracic Surgery, and current or eligibility for an unrestricted Virginia state medical license.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences, in group settings or one-on-one.
• Expertise in establishing physician relationships combined with the ability to manage an interdisciplinary team while appreciating and fostering peer participation from all disciplines.
