TRAUMA ANESTHESIOLOGY
The University of Maryland Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Trauma Anesthesiology has immediate openings for qualified individuals. Expected rank for these positions is Assistant Professor or higher, however, rank and tenure status is dependent on candidate’s qualifications. We provide dedicated 24/7 anesthesia coverage (incl. regional anesthesia) for > 6,000 complex/critically ill trauma and acute care surgery cases per year, done mainly in the nine-bed R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center ORs and thirteen-bed Trauma Resuscitation Unit. We are involved in both multi-site and unique clinical research, collaborating with surgeons/traumatologists/intensivists through the School of Medicine’s Shock, Trauma and Anesthesiology Research-Organized Research Center.
We provide bedside/didactic training for anesthesiology residents and fellows, multidisciplinary critical care fellows and students. Candidates must be ABA certified (or eligible). We give preference to qualified candidates with fellowship training in trauma, cardiac anesthesia or critical care or those experienced in cases requiring major resuscitation (e.g., liver transplant). The School of Medicine offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and a generous retirement plan. Non-clinical time is available for academic, scholarly and administrative activities. Expected rank for this position will be Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank and tenure status will be commensurate with selected candidate’s experience.
