Job Description

AP/CP Board Certified Pathologist

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA (USA). Inova Fair Oaks Hospital located in northern Virginia, is seeking applications for a full-time board-certified AP/CP pathologist needed to replace a retiring pathologist. Fellowship training in GI or Breast pathology is preferred. Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, a 180 bed community hospital that is part of the Inova Health System. Our pathology department signs out approximately 12,000 to 13,000 surgical specimens per year, with emphasis in breast and GI pathology. In addition, we receive approximately 350 non-gyn cytology specimens and 150 FNA/interventional radiology specimens per year. The clinical laboratory consists of chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank and point of care. Duties of the pathologist include but not limited to:

  • Sign out of general surgical pathology cases with emphasis on breast and GI cases.
  • Perform and evaluate intraoperative frozen sections and interventional radiology adequacy assessments (including thyroid FNA smear preparation)
  • Take rotating evening and weekend call
  • Review abnormal peripheral smears and evaluate joint fluids for crystals

Requirements:

  • Medical Doctorate (MD, DO) required
  • Must be board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology
  • 3 years in the active practice of pathology preferred
  • Fellowship training in GI or breast pathology preferred
  • Must hold current, active license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia
