The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale School of Medicine is expanding the clinical practice and seeks multiple surgeons specializing in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Neuro-ophthalmology, and Uveitis. All candidates must be eligible for appointment as an Assistant, Associate Professor or Professor at the Yale University School of Medicine.
The Department has a long-standing tradition of excellence in clinical care and research in multiple subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. Our faculty provide clinical services for patients with over 75,000 visits annually at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Dana Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, and the West Haven Veterans Affairs Hospital. We have a strong and competitive residency program, which consists of 15 residents in addition to fellowship programs. The Department is located within the Yale School of Medicine, which is one of the nation’s oldest and most competitive medical schools, consistently ranking in the top few in federal research funding. Clinical services are delivered through Yale Medicine, which is the largest multispecialty physician practice in New England, containing 1400 providers.
The Department is affiliated with the Yale New Haven Health System, a growing health care system including Yale-New Haven Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. We have outpatient offices in New Haven, Guilford, Madison, Norwalk, Waterford, Stratford, and Greenwich. The Department has a clinical footprint that extends from Greenwich to Waterford CT along the shoreline of our state. Our department is growing, with plans to expand its clinical and academic footprint over five years, adding multiple new clinical and research faculty members to coincide with this geographic expansion.
These are outstanding opportunities for candidates who are interested in building a solid career in academic medicine in a superb setting for clinical practice, education, and research. The ideal candidates will be devoted to clinical excellence, to advancing our knowledge of understanding and treating patients, and have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students. Candidates should have an MD degree and be board certified or board eligible in ophthalmology, fellowship trained in the respective subspecialty, and be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Connecticut.
