As an Obesity Medicine Physician, you will complete initial assessments and evaluations of new patients while providing ongoing monitoring of patients' medical conditions and providing appropriate treatment. To help achieve our mission, you will order prescription medications and diagnostic procedures in addition to authorizing/coordinating all specialty and ancillary services. Participating in the development of such programs as professional community outreach, quality assurance and others is of vital importance. Becoming involved in a wide range of clinical research projects, studies and multidisciplinary team activities is encouraged. Your ability to provide in- service staff development and clinical teachings to trainees rotating through medical practice, while maintaining a relationship with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses, behavioral health, registered dieticians and exercise physiologists is critical.
The Inova Bariatrics team is collaborative within the surgical and medical service lines of the health system. The position requires comfort with referral to bariatric surgery and counseling regarding lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise with the assistance of your team members.
We are committed to providing comprehensive obesity care for our patients, so the physician in this role will be required to provide screening, treatment and appropriate referrals for metabolic disease and obesity related diseases such as diabetes, sleep disorders, cardiovascular disease, nafld, and others. At a system level we are motivated to expand the integration of these services and therefore the person in this role will need to be committed to coordinated care.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Reports to the Physician Supervisor, the Director of Non-surgical Weight loss under the Inova Medical Service Line
• Aligned with and promotes Inova’s mission, vision, values and strategic direction
• Completes initial assessments and evaluations of new patients and provides ongoing monitoring of patients' medical conditions while providing treatment.
• Orders prescription medications and diagnostic procedures while authorizing and coordinating all specialty and ancillary services.
• Participates in the development of such programs as professional community outreach, quality assurance and others.
• Participates in a wide range of clinical research projects and studies.
• Participates in multidisciplinary team activities
• Provides in-service staff development and clinical teachings to trainees rotating through medical practice.
• Maintains a consultative relationship with multi-disciplinary team
• Adheres to patient care policies and procedures as designated
• Adheres to the established billing procedures for clinical services provided to patients.
• Abides by the bylaws, rules and regulations of medical staff.
• Collaboration with Obesity Disease nursing and administration to improve outcomes, patient experience, and retention at all sites of care.
• Commitment to continuously improving clinical effectiveness, including quality, safety and patient experience and elimination of unwarranted variability.
• All other duties assigned
Requirements
Education: Completed residency in IM, FM, or IM/Peds.
Certification: ABOM certified/eligible in IM, FM, or IM/Peds
Licensure: VA Physician licensure and VA DEA
