Associate Chief of Staff for Education (ACOS-E)

The VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Associate Chief of Staff for Education (ACOS-E), the institution’s designated educational officer. The position reports to the Chief of Staff and is responsible for the onsite education of approximately 3,000 pre- and post-graduate medical and allied health professional trainees and approximately 175 affiliation agreements. Physicians with experience in graduate and post-graduate education are preferred, but we also invite applications from those with doctoral degrees in other health professions and similar educational experience.

VABHS is a primary affiliate of both Harvard Medical School and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. The ACOS-E will hold a primary faculty appointment at one medical school with a secondary appointment at the other. Credentials and experience should be commensurate with appointment at the level of Assistant Professor or higher.

VABHS educates medical and graduate students from both medical schools as well as post-graduate trainees from Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Tufts Medical Center. VABHS also has strong affiliations with six schools of nursing and a host of allied professional schools. VABHS sponsors residency programs in post-baccalaureate nursing, psychiatry, psychology, pharmacy, social work, and optometry and nurse practitioner training programs in primary care and mental health. We are innovators in health professional education and have created and disseminated educational content such as an education academy, a faculty development lecture series, and educator podcasts:

Therefore, a track record of educational innovation is strongly preferred.

VABHS is a 1a facility with three principal campuses in eastern Massachusetts and serves as the principal tertiary care referral site for Veterans from throughout New England. We also host VA’s largest research program and provide learners with opportunities to engage in research during and after their training.

The position requires US citizenship and M.D. or Ph.D. with licensure (for physicians and Ph.D. clinicians). Recruitment/relocation incentives will be considered. VABHS is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
