The Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute seeks a dynamic board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon to join the Division of Adult Cardiac Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. This position will serve as the Director of the Cardiac Transplantation Program, working closely with the Advanced Heart Failure team and the Comprehensive Transplant Center. The Johns Hopkins Hospital was founded in 1889 and is the teaching hospital for The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The Johns Hopkins Hospital was ranked No. 4 in the United States and No. 1 in Maryland according to the US News & World Report’s best hospital rankings.

Cardiac surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital has a distinguished history of advancements in treating cardiothoracic diseases in adults and children, beginning with the Blalock-Taussig shunt in 1944. Our program provides a full complement of cardiothoracic surgical interventions. We also offer comprehensive heart and pulmonary failure treatment, including ECMO, cardiac transplantation, lung transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support devices.

Faculty will have the privilege and responsibility of helping to teach cardiac surgery trainees and medical students. They will expand their research and scholarly activities to achieve national and international recognition as they advance the field. Faculty within the Division of Cardiac Surgery have access to a robust research infrastructure related to bench and large animal research, clinical trial, and data analytics to allow the development of their academic and research portfolio.

This appointee will hold a faculty appointment in the Division of Cardiac Surgery encompassed within the JHU Department of Surgery and will report clinically to the Surgical Lead and Co-Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute and the Division Chief from an academic standpoint. This Director level position also reports to other senior leaders of both The Johns Hopkins University and The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

 

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have broad experience in adult cardiac transplantation with a track record of exemplary clinical results. The applicant will divide his or her time between heart and transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, and all facets of adult cardiac surgery. Experience in lung transplantation is desirable.

MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited school of medicine is required

Must be fellowship trained, board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and eligible for licensure in Maryland
